LAUREN & RUSS
It doesn’t need to be a hot and sunny day for The Lost Orangery to look stunning – but it definitely helps. I was so excited to shoot a wedding at this incredible venue. You can’t truly appreciate it until you see it in person, but it really is an impressive place to be. I was there to capture the wedding day of happy couple Russ and Lauren, and they were lucky enough to have a beautifully sunny summer’s day for their ceremony in the thatched boathouse. I’m certain the venue was worth Lauren’s family coming all the way over from the US.
Lauren started the day getting ready in The Lost Orangery’s accommodations with her bridesmaids and flower girl. It’s a light and airy space, making it great for photography. I also had the chance to wander around before the guests started rolling in to get some shots of the magnificent grounds and architecture. From topiary to grand arches, there’s a lot to take in.
More pre-ceremony photos were vital when Russ and his groomsmen arrived all suited and booted, and we made use of the venue’s bright interiors. The ceremony itself took place in the striking boathouse, just the right size for the small gathering who started to arrive. With my daughter along to help, we were able to capture the ceremony from up close and from across the water. The stone staircases approaching the boathouse made for a dramatic bridal party entrance!

Everyone was in their own little world, ensconced in the boathouse, as Russ and Lauren were joined together. Once they’d sealed the romantic deal, I spent some time getting some photos of both the happy couple and their guests during champagne and canapes. The Lost Orangery has hundreds of places to get some great pictures, both out in the open and in lots of hidden nooks and crannies. The manor house and grounds offer so many opportunities to capture something magical. Everywhere you look, there’s somewhere new to explore and enjoy.
The space indoors is no less impressive than outside – it didn’t even feel like a shame to be inside on such a sunny day. It’s impossible not to feel a bit special with a fancy chandelier hanging above you. The architecture and the interiors offer a beautiful place for a wedding breakfast, moving speeches – and even a surprise guitar performance from the bride!
This was an amazing venue to shoot in, and I have no doubt also an unforgettable day for Russ, Lauren and their friends and family. I loved working with this fun-loving couple and I can’t wait to get back to The Lost Orangery as soon as possible. Maybe for a winter wedding next time?
