ISSY & BERNIE

A Late Summer Wedding at Grittleton House in Wiltshire

Issy and Bernie got married in September, as summer came to a close and autumn started to creep in. It was a gloriously bright and sunny day. This gave us the perfect backdrop for photographs, but it also meant the couple and their guests could dine in the orangery at their reception, a particular highlight of the day for the couple. Their stunning wedding, at Grittleton House in Wiltshire, was a real delight to capture on camera. I can’t wait to tell you all about it!

Issy is a local Bath girl. She met Bernie whilst he was studying Graphic Communications at Bath University (the same course and uni I went to!). Issy’s Persian and Bernie’s Ghanaian roots were gently included in their wedding celebrations, in their choice of menu for the wedding breakfast, which was lovely to see. Other than that, the wedding was a decidedly English affair.

I was able to capture both the groom prep, at Issy’s brother’s flat at The Circus in Bath, and bridal prep at the family home nearby. This was done with the help of my awesome second photographer and daughter, Alice, who was on taxi duty for the morning! Of course, she got handy with a camera later on too!

Issy’s beautiful dress was a Suzanne Neville from Carina Baverstock Couture, while her veil was locally sourced and made by the folks at Britten. The talented Christy Waterfall and Abigail Constanza teamed up to do hair and make-up and, as always, did an amazing job. The gorgeous floral displays, bouquets and buttonholes were all supplied by Caroline at Foxy Buds.

Once Issy was ready, it was time to head to St. Stephen’s Church. This was a journey Issy made in absolute style. She was chauffeured there by her Dad, driving his vintage 1965 Ford Mustang! Now how’s that for an entrance?

The day was not without its hiccups though. One of Issy’s bridesmaid’s managed to get her foot stuck in a grate on the way into the church. She had to be rescued while the congregation waited inside! Of course, I stuck around to capture the whole thing, because that was all part of this wedding story. And it was definitely a fun moment to remember. Issy even listed it as one of the highlights of her day!

She also loved having some time alone with Bernie after the ceremony. The two of them drove off together in the Mustang. They loved having that time alone to talk about the wedding and be together, which is always a great thing to do if you have the time.

Issy and Bernie’s reception was at the grand Grittleton House. This place has the wow factor with its beautiful décor, sweeping staircase, tree-lined drive and that orangery where they all got to enjoy their meal. The site dates back to the late 1600s. The building has been through many changes and varying uses over the years. Most notably, it was used by the MOD in the 1940s and even housed the Doomsday Book for a short period of time!

Issy said of Grittleton House when asked why she and Bernie chose to celebrate their wedding here: “It is so beautiful and grand, but the vibe just felt completely relaxed! It was like nowhere we had ever seen and we both loved it from the moment we walked in. The team were so flexible. It really did feel like the house was ours for the day.”

WOW…!!! These are absolutely incredible! The slideshow is amazing too – thank you so so so much. We are so pleased we had you capturing our special day, you were a pleasure to have at the wedding and you really have captured every detail!

The beauty of a place like Grittleton House is that it barely needs any extra decoration to make your wedding look perfect. I loved the simple touches like the glass table signs. It was such a beautiful day and it was a great wedding to be part of.

Once dinner and the speeches were over, I was able to take Issy and Bernie off for one last shoot around the grounds and venue itself. Then the couple cut the gorgeous cake (made by Bernie’s Aunt!) before they and everyone else hit the dancefloor.

The fact that their DJ had to cancel the day before the wedding was the tiniest of hiccups. It turned out that a bunch of their friends, and Bernie himself, have all got wicked DJ skills! So they kept the dancefloor going, as well as the smooth sounds of the band, Cinco Magic.

I left them all boogying into the night, worn out but thrilled at what a brilliant wedding this was.

Thank you, Issy and Bernie, for allowing me to be a part of your day and congratulations to you both!
