FREYA & JAMES
Head girl Freya and the very handsome James
I’ve photographed weddings at Orchardleigh many times before, but it was my first time at the new Walled Garden. The garden has been purpose built for weddings, but I was taken aback by the venue’s brightness and modernity which sat alongside its grandeur and charming character. The old meets new vibe of the venue was the perfect backdrop for Freya and James’ wedding. My day began bright and early as I headed to the picturesque cottages on The Orchardleigh Estate where the bride, groom and guests were staying. I initially met up with the groom and his groomsmen as they prepared themselves for the day ahead, capturing moments as they helped each other with their ties and button holes, I then snuck off to check on the bride, who was busy getting her hair and makeup perfected.
“A massive congratulations to the newlyweds, may you spend a long and happy life together.”
I then headed to the church which was just off the estate in a little village of Lullington. The sky was looking grey, but I captured the arrival of the guests, before settling into their places to eagerly await the bride. James also stood patiently waiting for Freya, who emerged from a Rolls Royce with her father shortly afterward. Unfortunately, this was when the heavens opened! We rushed inside as quickly as possible. At this point, I looked particularly dishevelled, but Freya was still as radiant as ever. The ceremony was on of the best and a highlight of the day for many, mostly due to the comedic vicar who had everyone in attendance (including me) in stitches!
By the time the service had finished, the rain had died off, providing the perfect opportunity for a confetti throw. The sun was very welcomed at this point, although unfortunately, it was rather short lived. Heading back to the Walled Garden, the guests helped themselves to canapés before congregating outside, as it had reached the time for the highly anticipated group shots of the bride and groom along with their family and friends. With everyone back inside, the speeches came with a few tears but plenty of laughter. This carried through to the evening, which after the first dance, the party really started. I was thoroughly impressed with the sheer volume of dancing dads, who created a great atmosphere for the rest of the guests. This meant that I was able to quietly steal Freya and James away for some evening photographs underneath the stars. This was the perfect setting for the couple to share a romantic kiss and spend a moment to reflect on the day’s events.
