Living in Bath myself, the Roman Baths is a location that I’ve shot at many times. So even though I know exactly what will make a good photo, I also look for ways to change it up and inject personality into my work. James and Ian were a couple whose personalities were infectious, which came across on their wedding day and through the lens. The festivities started the night before the big day in the magnificent Gainsborough Bath Spa, a new 5 star hotel in the centre of Bath. As James and Ian had planned a sunset ceremony, we met in the hotel for a few pre wedding photos of the night before to get the handsome couple accustomed to being in front of the camera.
The next day, I met the couple at a Bobby Mak hairdressers in Bath town centre where the champagne had already started flowing. Looking dapper as they emerged with their new hair do’s, we took to the streets of Bath for some romantic shots before making our way back to the hotel. James and Ian were staying in a suite on the top floor, where they helped each other get ready and into their stunning Ted Baker suits. Downstairs at the bar, the guests started to arrive and there was a few moments of socialising before heading to the Roman Baths. On the way, we bumped into Lucy Worsley, a historian and presenter for the BBC (which James and Ian were particularly excited about!) Herds of guests crowded outside the baths having a good natter before filling into the venue. Despite the lighting being difficult to work with, I snapped away as James and Ian made their way to each other from separate sides of the room. Meeting in the middle, they were married by their neighbour, Sue.
After the ceremony, guests found their seats in The Pump Room for food, and speeches were given by the couple’s best friends and brother. This was followed by the first dance and a marvellous party, which came to a close way past midnight.
If you’re looking for same sex wedding photography, please don’t hesitate to contact me and we can discuss your big day! Last of all, I’d like to say a huge congratulations to James and Ian on their big day.
